The security of information systems needs to be a top priority for French companies

Jean-Paul Alibert,
President of the Comité Cybersécurité,
Syntec Numerique & Président T-Systems France

Indeed, recent cyber-attacks demonstrate, as if it were still necessary, that this important subject needs to be tackled head on. Cybersecurity plays a vital role in the trust required in digital transformation. Syntec Numérique has made cybersecurity one of its priorities by creating a dedicated committee and bringing together specialized companies.

This committee builds its actions around three major issues:

Training and promotion of cybersecurity training courses to address the lack of skills in the market

Training and the promotion of cybersecurity training courses is a prime challenge. Increasing the attractiveness and visibility of the cybersecurity profession to students and young professionals, facilitating orientation and access to cyber security training to high school students and students and supporting professional mobility and the upgrading of the skills of employees towards the cybersecurity profession are the three priority issues identified by the OPIIEC – Branch Observatory study. Syntec Numérique used this study in 2017 to analyze training and skills needs in the cyber security sector. The results of this study are undeniable and sound the alarm, notably with regards to the need to quickly face up to the shortage of talent and to professionalize training.

In partnership with its Professional Branch and FAFIEC, Syntec Numérique has developed a Professional Qualification Certificate (PQC) “ Information Security and Risks Manager” (ISRM), intended for professionals working within companies with at least five years’ experience in cybersecurity / risk management to allow certification their competences, and is pursuing other actions in this area which should see the light of day before the end of the year.

Information and awareness of Cybersecurity issues

Informing and sensitizing all stakeholders (companies, employees, the state, etc.) on cyber security issues is also a major focal point for Syntec Numérique.

Numerous initiatives contribute to this goal: the cyber security rules for management produced by Syntec Numérique’s cybersecurity committee, Syntec Numérique’s mobilisation as a founding member within the framework of the activities carried out by the GIP Acyma, and participation in the International Forum on Cybersecurity, etc.

Innovation and promotion of French cybersecurity solutions and their increased international visibility

Another challenge is to foster innovation in digital trust, promote French cybersecurity solutions and increase their visibility at an international level. It should be noted that to increase the visibility and readability of cybersecurity solutions proposed by French companies, the certification of these solutions (by ANSSI in France) is one way to achieve this.

Syntec Numérique believes that it is essential to ensure the recognition of certifications and labels at an international level and at the very least to promote European certifications / labels based on international standards in order to create a zone of confidence at European level and to facilitate the deployment of solutions internationally.

SYNTEC NUMERIQUE

“Syntec Numérique” is the professional chamber to which companies operating in the digital field (consulting, services, engineering, software publishing, etc.) more specifically belong to. And so naturally, it is here that we find the Syntec cyber security committee!

Composed of about thirty business leaders, but not all specialists in the field of security, the committee’s mission is to make the necessary means and information available to its members to help them implement appropriate cybersecurity solutions. It is also charged with carrying out actions in support of cybersecurity training.

The Syntec Numériques’s approach to cybersecurity, like other professional associations, passes through the prism of digital transformation: there will be no successful digital transformation without cybersecurity.

In this context, and at the request of the MEDEF, the Syntec Numérique has published, the six golden rules of cybersecurity for business leaders fact sheets.

More recently, the association also published a study of training and skills needs in cybersecurity, conducted by the firm EY and with the assistance of ANSSI.
